Art.1)
It is open in Sorso the Library named after the writer “Salvatore Farina”. The Library is public and belongs to the city of Sorso. As stated by its Statute, the Local Administration assigns to the Library the place where citizens exercise the right to information, documentation and reading. In order to achieve it, the Library will utilize multimedia means of communication and computer technology and it will support interlibrary loans by adapting its own services to the Regional and National Library System ones.

The Library “Salvatore Farina” promotes communication and cooperation with other libraries and archives as well as with private and public cultural, educational and documentary bodies.
Art.3)
The Library “Salvatore Farina” provides a free service of Public Reading to all Citizens. As a basic information service and as a structural part of the local education system, it implements the following:
a) it collects, organizes and arranges for the public books, magazines, publications, documentaries in any form and anything else considered to be useful for information, documentation and reading;
b) it collects and arranges for the public a copy of the Local Administration acts and studies with documentary importance, available for consultation in conformity with the laws in force;
c) it collects and files documents and accounts on the local territory and community in order to preserve and hand down local historical memories;
d) it promotes and supports studies, publications, school and university research on local history;
e) it organizes and coordinates studies, debates and exhibitions whose themes are written, electronic and audiovisual information and readings;
f) it participates in exercising the right to study and to permanent education; it assists students and promotes cooperation with scholastic institutions. It coordinates its classification with local schools’ library services. Once a year, teaching staff has the opportunity to purchase organic bibliographies through the Library to be used as part of their school programmes;
g) it promotes socialization and meetings among Citizens through cultural activities correlated with libraries’ sole aim: the advancement of reading, information and computer literacy.
